The main themes of the Youth Camp
Climate Change
Climate change is a pressing scientific problem and a global societal and political challenge. The Earth's surface has warmed at an alarming rate, and as a consequence, sea level is rising, glaciers are retreating and the extent of Arctic sea ice is shrinking. The world is in dire need of effective and innovative mitigation and adaptation technologies and strategies to resolve this most important challenge of our time.
Renewable Natural Resources and Energy
Global energy demand is estimated to increase by 40 percent by 2050. At the same time, net GHG emissions should be zeroed. In the Global energy team, you will explore new energy technologies, combined with their economical analysis. Another approach is to examine the role of technology and economics in implementing new energy solutions and in reducing GHG emissions.
Water
The Water team concentrates on the increasing challenges of water availability and protection of water resources. New ideas for solutions or practices will be needed for, among other things, improving water use efficiency in communities, agriculture and industries and reducing environmental impact of water and effluent management.
ICT (Information and Communication Technology) and Digitalisation
The ICT team concentrates on internet, mobility, computers, applications, digital communities and networks. It tries to find new solutions and tools to make things more efficient, fun and easy. It also does things digitally in new ways to save natural resources and to tackle the climate change.
Applied Mathematics
Many fields of mathematics, including mathematical analysis, linear, algebra, probability theory and, in particular, numerical methods, have important and sometimes surprising applications in engineering. While we do not yet know what kind of applications will emerge in the future, it is clear that mathematics will play a crucial role in the future of technology for humanity.
