Dr. Osterwalder is former Rector of the United Nations University and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations. Appointed Professor of Mathematical Physics at Harvard University and then at ETH Zürich, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, he is also a member of the Swiss Academy of Technical Sciences. He served as Rector of ETH from 1995 to 2007. His research is focused on the mathematical structure of relativistic quantum field theory, on elementary particle physics, and on statistical mechanics. Dr. Osterwalder has been teaching students in natural science and engineering for more than twenty years.
